There must be something about GOODE skis and Latin American water. A little over a month after GOODE skiers went 1-2-3 at the Peru Big Dawg, pro Team GOODE members Thomas Degasperi, Nick Parsons and Javier Julio swept the podium at the Proa Nautique Mexico Open.
T-Gas scored a half buoy at 41-feet off to earn his first professional title of the year, while Nick and Javier placed second and third with 4-1/2 buoys at 39-1/2 feet off and 4-1/2 buoys at 38 feet off, respectively. Like the top three finishers at the Peru Big Dawg, all three rode the GOODE NANO-“twist” with PowerShell 5 boots.
The tournament was held at the Urban Wake Water Ski Complex in Querétaro, Mexico, and featured a field that included Brooks Wilson, Jason McClintock, Daniel Odvarko, and several of Latin America’s top skiers.
If you are going to miss one of the world’s biggest water ski tournaments, it better be for a good reason, right?Well, Team GOODE skier and reigning world slalom champion Thomas Degasperi will be missing next month’s Moomba Masters for what is perhaps the best reason in the history of the sport … he’ll be home in Italy participating in its version of Dancing With the Stars.
If T-Gas’ moves on the dance floor are half as good as they are on the water, he’s got a pretty good chance at winning it all.
After a week of online voting by fans, Regina Jaquess’ new Women’s slalom world record of 2 buoys at 41 feet off has been selected as the GOODE Skis moment of the year.
“There were so many great moments in 2011 that I’m glad I didn’t have to decide between them,” said Dave Goode, founder and president of GOODE Skis. “World records are pretty special and obviously voters felt the same way. Regina had one of the best years competitive water skiing has ever seen and I can’t think of anyone more deserving.”
“When you look back at the year it is a pretty impressive list of performances and victories,” said Dave. “We’re honored to have played our part in these great athletes’ accomplishments by arming them with the very best skis and boots in the sport.”
While the top 5 were determined by fans, moments ranked Nos. 10 through 5 were determined prior to the voting. They were:
The 2011 pro tour season ended under the lights in Katy, TX, last weekend as top pros competed at the Katy Ski Jam Presented by Eagle Sports.
With the GOODE PowerBuoys lighting the way, Nate Smith scored 3 buoys at 41 feet off to beat Chris Rossi (5-1/2 buoys at 39-1/2 feet off) in the head-to-head final and claim the title. Team GOODE skier Thomas Degasperi took third on his T-Gas edition NANO with PowerShell boots and bindings. Thomas scored 2 buoys at 41 feet off in the semi-finals, but was unfortunate to run up against Nate’s 5 buoys at 41 feet off in the head-to-head match up.
In the Women’s slalom exhibition, Team GOODE skiers took first and third as Regina Jaquess scored 1-1/2 buoys at 41 feet off on her GOODE NANO-”twist” and Karen Truelove Krueger rode her GOODE 9900SL with PowerShells to 3 buoys at 38 feet off. April Coble finished second with 1 buoy at 41 feet off.
Freddy Krueger won Men’s Jumping and Greg Badal won Master Men’s slalom.
Only 147 days until pro skiing returns, March 7, 2012, at the Moomba Masters in Melbourne, Australia.
