Led by Regina Jaquess’ Malibu Open three-peat, Team GOODE took three titles and numerous podiums this past weekend at Veterans Park in Milwaukee, Wis.
Regina defeated Whitney McClintock in the head-to-head finals to claim the Open Women’s slalom title for the third-consecutive year, while her fellow teammates April Coble-Eller (3rd) and Karen Truelove (4th) also skied well in advancing to the Final Four.
In Open Men’s slalom, Team GOODE’s Thomas Degasperi and Chris Parrish both advanced to the Final Four on the way to taking third and fourth, respectively. Nate Smith earned the title with K.C. Wilson having his best showing as a pro with a second-place finish.
Junior GOODE skiers continue to excel in 2014, as both Dane Mechler (under 21 Men’s slalom) and Bailey Austin (under 17 girls) each took home titles. The Under 21 Men’s event was a sweep for GOODE skiers as Daniel Di Pol and Sam Greenwood joined Dane on the podium, finishing second and third, respectively. Other GOODE skiers with top-3 finishes included Erika Lang (3rd, under 21 Women’s), Nick Lang (under 17 Boy’s) and Zach Montavon (under 17 Boy’s).
The Northern Hemisphere ski season is in full swing as evidenced by the number of big tournaments over the weekend. And where there were big tournaments, there were GOODE skiers putting up big scores.
The Aquaplex in Austin, Texas, was the site of two record-breaking performances. Disabled V1 skier Mike Royal set a pending world audio slalom record of 4.5 buoys at 38 off, topping his own current record of 4 at 38. Last summer he set pending records that topped out at 0.5 at 41, but thy were not approved by the IWWF. Bailey Austin continued to mark herself as one of the sport’s future stars by tying the current U.S. National Girls 3 record of 1 at 39-1/2 off.
Dave Miller continued his amazing season on the Nautique Big Dawg World Tour, taking third place, posting the highest score of the weekend in the process, at the Seattle stop Broho Lake ski club. Jeff Rodgers finished first with Greg Badal second. In the three Big Dawg events he’s entered this season, Dave has two wins and a third-place finish.
Paducah, Kentucky’s Average Joes Vs. Bikini Pros tournament featured two events and GOODE skiers won them both. Regina Jaquess held off a slew of top-ranked Master Men’s and Open Women’s skiers to earn the 34 mph title, while Tyler Scott won the pro 36 mph event, with his fellow GOODE skiers Dane Mechler and Sam Jackson joining him on the podium.
At the inaugural Pan American Olympic Festival in Morelos, Mexica, Erika Lang won gold medalsin tricksand overall, and a silver medal in slalom. The event was a first-year water ski and wakeboard event hosted by the Pan American Sports Organization.
And last but certainly not least, GOODE skiers took home two golds and a silver medal at the European Under 21 Championships in Recetto, Italy. Brando Caruso took home the Men’s title to add to the Jr. Masters championship he won earlier this year, while the Bonnemann sisters, Chaira and Giannina, took first and second, respectively in the Women’s event.
