GOODE snow skis earn major magazine awards

GOODE is getting some major magazine love as four of its snow skis have won awards from SKI and Skiing magazines.

“I’ve always thought that what our customers tell us about our skis is the most important kind of feedback we get,” said Dave Goode, founder and president of GOODE Skis, “but having testers from SKI and Skiing magazines like our skis so much is pretty great too.  It’s just more confirmation that all of the hard work we’ve put into designing, testing and building great skis is paying off.”

The Fire earned honors from both magazines, scoring a Gold Medal Gear designation from SKI and an Official Selection from SkiingSKI’s reviewers liked the Fire’s lightweight finesse and pop, labeling the ski “sporty and snappy.”  It took the top score in the Men’s mixed west classification in both the quickness and forgiveness categories, and tied for second in rebound.  Skiing says the Fire “absolutely torches corduroy” and that its carbon construction allows skiers “to relax on this ski and still go effing fast.”  Skiing wrapped up its review by saying that the Fire is “a great all-mountain tool with a traditional feel perfect for race-bred folks.” Reviews: SKI | Skiing

Citing its softer flexes that make it more manageable and its smooth ride in rough snow, Skiing awarded GOODE’s women’s freestyle ski, the  Affinity, with an Official Selection honor.  Testers gave the ski high marks in stability at speed, maneuverability, hard snow performance and forgiveness.  Review: Skiing

The Impact earned a Gold Medal Gear award in SKI’s Men’s mixed snow east, a category of skis that require good edge grip on account of the East’s generally colder, icier conditions.  Like the Fire, the Impact got rave reviews for its quickness and rebound, earning the category’s highest combined marks in these areas.  SKI summed up the Impact by saying that it’s “light, lively and fun.” Review: SKI

In the powder ski category, the Rahu earned an Official Selection award from Skiing.  Testers cited its “distinctly traditional feel” that “hooks firmly into turns and holds steady throughout.”  They also loved how the Rahu offers “on-piste precision” and “off-piste agility.”  Review: Skiing

Bryan Wickenhauser & Brian Smith Win 13th Annual Elk Mountain Grand Traverse

An Email from Bryan Wickenhauser:

Folks -

A quick THANK YOU to all our equipment supporters who make the gear that we race on.  Brian Smith & I over the weekend won the 13th Annual Elk Mountain Grand Traverse!

Unfortunately due to some intense weather that rolled in the night of the race, the route was changed and we didn’t get to finish in Aspen.  The surrounding Elk Mountains due offer some great terrain and the organisers were able to scramble and salvage a great “plan B” course that had nearly 7000 ft of vertical gain/loss over nearly 35+ miles of racing, with a finish back at the base area of Crested Butte Resort.

The top five teams were all on lightweight AT gear!

Thanks for your support!

Bryan Wickenhauser & Brian Smith

Both Bryan and Brian won while using their GOODE Pure Carbon Fiber Randonee Race Skis. GOODE Skis are made in Ogden, Utah.

Travis Scheefer 2nd Place at US Nationals

In a recent email to Dave Goode from Travis Scheefer….

My skis arrived just in time to get them mounted and head up to Jackson for Nationals. As it turned out, I ended up breaking my other pair of skis a couple days earlier so I was thankful to get your skis in the mail.

The race in Jackson was awesome, the course was really challenging, skiing and skinning refrozen slush. Our final bootpack went straight up Corbet’s and they put in a 25ft extension ladder to climb over the cornice at the top, then the 4,000ft decent to the finish. I was in 4th over the top of the ladder with Wickenhauser about 15 seconds ahead of me and Brandon French 20 seconds ahead of him. I caught and passed Wick about half way down and passed Brandon French shortly after. I finished 2nd, putting almost 40 seconds on Wick and a minute and a half on Brandon!

Your skis are great at high speed on frozen death cookies!

By placing 2nd I qualified for the 2010 Andorra ISMF Ski Mountaineering World Championships and the US Ski Mountaineering Team!

I am excited for this weekend and Elk Mountain Grand Traverse. Thank you for the skis!

Brian Smith Wins Second COSMIC Event

Hey Dave,

I won the second Cosmic event this past weekend.

I was able to stay ahead of Pete Swenson, organizer of the series and past national champion.  I am really pumped to stay on top.

The GOODE Rando skis are awesome and continue to be stable performers at high speeds and technical descents.  I really put the skis through the ringer at Crested Butte with the limited snow cover and hard packed terrain.  It was by far the most challenging course I have done to date.

I have included a few pictures with the skis that my dad took at Monarch ski area a little while back.

Thanks again for your support.
