GOODE skiers set to take on the Masters this weekend

Regina Jaques will be gunning for her third-straight Masters title.

When the 58th Masters Waterski Tournament takes place this weekend at Callaway Gardens in Pine Mountain, Ga., some Team GOODE skiers will be looking to keep streaks going, while others will be looking to start ones of their own.

Thomas Degasperi will be putting his No. 1 IWWF Elite ranking on the line and looking to make it two major titles in a row after winning the Moomba Masters earlier this season.  Thomas has had a phenomenal past 12 months, taking titles at the Malibu Open, Canadian Open and European Championships in addition to Moomba.  Among the competition he’ll face on the Masters’ famed Robin Lake will be fellow Team GOODE athletes Daniel Odvarko and defending U.S. Open champion Adam Sedlmajer.  Additional competitors are defending champ Nate Smith, Freddie Winter, Jason McClintock, Jon Travers, Stephen Neveu, and Will Asher.

In Women’s slalom World Elite No. 1 Regina Jaquess will of course be one of the favorites, as is appropriate for the two-time defending and seven time Women’s slalom champion.  While she skipped Moomba, she looks to be in top shape after a dominating win at the Swiss Pro Slalom two weekends ago.

Her competition will include an onslaught of Team GOODE skiers, as when taking Regina into account six of the eight women in the field will ride GOODEs.  Breanne Dodd, Clementine Lucine, Karen Truelove, Kate Adriaenson, and Brooke Baldwin (more on Brooke below) all made the field and are expected to challenge Regina.  Whitney McClintock and Manon Costard round out the Women’s slalom field.

In the junior ranks, Brooke’s jump to the open division will end her two-year dominance of the slalom event and her three consecutive overall titles. GOODE skiers Neilly Ross and Alejandra DeOsma will be among the skiers looking to take advantage of Brooke’s absence, while Aris Techoueyres and Quinn Haines will look to claim Junior Men’s slalom titles, with Quinn competing in overall.

The top-four finishers from last season’s Big Dawg World Tour Finals have once again been invited to the Masters party.  Team GOODE’s Greg Badal and Dave Miller will both compete, however fellow GOODE skier Jeremy Newby-Ricci is unable to make it to the event, opening up a spot for Jeff Rodgers.  Fred Halt is the fourth competitor.

The event begins Friday with the Junior Masters and takes place throughout the weekend, concluding with the finals on Sunday.

The name and even the location of the tournament may have changed, but one thing has remained the same over the last five years at the California Pro-Am: Regina Jaquess taking the Women’s slalom crown.

Regina (took her fifth-straight California Pro-Am (previously known as the Diablo Shores Pro-Am) title Saturday, beating second-place finisher Whitney McClintock by a quarter buoy (4-1/4@39 to 4@39) to secure the win. The win adds to Regina’s professional winning streak of 28 months, as her last loss came at the 2014 Masters. Five has been a big number for Regina this year; she also won her fifth-straight Malibu Open title earlier this summer.

Regina was joined in the finals by her fellow GOODE teammates Karen Truelove (4th), Breanne Dodd (5th), and Kate Adriaensen (6th).

In Men’s slalom, Team GOODE’s Daniel Odvarko landed on the podium with a third-place finish, while Brian Detrick (6th), Thomas Degasperi (7th) and Carlo Allais (8th) also advanced to the finals.

T-Gas and Regina claim Malibu Open titles; 5 of 8 finalists on GOODEs

Benny Stadlbaur finished 2nd to bag his best-ever pro finish.

Thomas Degasperi and Regina Jaquess made it 2-for-2 for Team GOODE as they both won slalom titles at last weekend’s Malibu Open in Milwaukee, Wis. For Regina, the win marked an amazing fifth-straight victory at the Malibu Open, while T-Gas picked up his second career Malibu Open win.

In the Women’s slalom head-to-head finals, Regina ran a full pass at 39-1/2 feet off to beat second-place finisher Whitney McClintock (4@39). The Women’s Final Four feature three Team GOODE skiers, as Clementine Lucine (3rd) and Breanne Dodd (4th) joined Regina in advancing past the semi finals. GOODE skier Kate Adriaensen finished just outside the finals, placing fifth.

It was an all-GOODE final bracket in Men’s slalom, as T-Gas edged out upstart Benny Stadlbaur, with 4 buoys at 39-1/2 off to Benny’s score of three at the same line length. It was the second-straight pro tournament victory for T-Gas, who also won the Canadian Open earlier this month in Edmonton, Canada. The win moved him into the second spot on the IWWF Elite Rankings List behind Nate Smith. For Benny, it was his best-ever pro placement.

In the Junior events, GOODE skiers Dane Mechler placed second in Junior Men’s slalom, while Quinn Haines finished third in Boy’s slalom while also taking the jump title.
