Regina caps undefeated year with MasterCraft Pro title

Regina Jaquess capped a dominate 2020 season Saturday with a win at the MasterCraft Pro held at Action Water Sports in Polk City, Fla.

The victory secured an undefeated season that saw her win her 8th consecutive Malibu Open title and 6th consecutive Swiss Pro Slalom in addition to victories at the GOODE Nationals and the Stillwaters Team Challenge, among others.

Saturday’s final round also served as a season capstone for Team GOODE’s Elizabeth Montavon who set a personal best of 2.5 buoys at 39-1/2 feet off in the Women’s slalom finals to finish second, her highest ever professional finish. Elizabeth’s 2020 season saw her emerge as a pro podium threat on the strength of top-three finishes at the Hilltop Pro Am and Travers Grand Prix and a spot in the finals at Moomba.

The Men’s side saw one of the toughest final rounds in the history of the sport as three skiers – Team GOODE’s Thomas Degasperi, Nate Smith and Freddie Winter – tied with a huge score of 5 buoys at 41 off. In the ensuing run off, Nate emerged with the win (1 at 43), while Freddie (4 at 41) and Thomas (3 at 41) finished second and third, respectively. For Thomas it was the second-straight professional podium following his third-place place finish at the Swiss Pro Slalom.

Regina sets pending world overall record; Team GOODE racks up titles and podiums at Stillwaters and Hilltop

The pros were back on the water this weekend in two separate events and Team GOODE put on a show.

At the Stillwaters Pro Team Challenge in Oconomowoc, Wis., Regina Jaquess won titles in slalom, jumping and overall, setting a pending Women’s World Overall record in the process. She scored 2.5 buoys at 41 off, 8,420 point in tricks and jumped 180 feet for 4,234.6 overall points. If approved as a new world record, it will be the fifth time Regina has held the record.

Even after setting a pending world record, perhaps the most memorable thing Regina did over the weekend was muscling through a scrappy 39-off pass that has internet tongues wagging. To view the mind bending pass, click here or on the image above.

Joining Regina atop the slalom podium at Stillwaters was Team GOODE’s Daniel Odvarko. Daniel ran 1 buoy at 41 off to top second- and third-place finishers Nate Smith and Ryan Canepa, respectively. Felipe Miranda took home titles in Mens jumping and overall.

GOODE skiers also hit the podium at the Hilltop Pro Am in Arlington, Wash., as Chelsea Mills finished second and Elizabeth Montavon third. Jamie Bull earned the win.

Degasperi takes second at Moomba after runoff

For the second straight year, the Moomba Masters Mens slalom title was decided in a run-off between Thomas Degasperi and Nate Smith.

But unlike 2019 when he emerged victorious, Team GOODE’s Thomas fell just short against Nate in the season’s debut event. After each battled the Yarra River’s tough conditions to score 5 buoys at 39-1/2 feet off in the finals, Nate earned the win with 2 buoys at 41 off (to Thomas’ 4.5 at 39). Fellow GOODE skiers Dorien Llewellyn and Felipe Miranda both advanced to the semi finals.

In Women’s slalom, GOODE skiers Elizabeth Montavon and Giannina Bonnemann both had strong showings, finishing 5th and 6th, respectively. Manon Costard took the win.

Defending Moomba Men’s tricks champ Martin Kolman earned a spot on the podium with a fourth-place finish, while Felipe Miranda joined him in the finals, eventually finishing 8th.

Giannina added to her outstanding finish in slalom with third-place finishes in tricks and jumping, giving her the Moomba Women’s overall title. Dorien and Felipe took 3rd and 4th, respectively in Men’s overall.

In the Junior Moomba Masters, GOODE’s Ali Garcia was crowed co-champion after the second round of the event was wiped out by strong currents. Ali scored 1 buoy at 38 off in the first (and only round) to earn the co-title with Sade Ferguson.
