Regina Jaquess’ dominance over the Malibu Open, and really Women’s slalom in general, continued as she won her unprecedented 9th consecutive Malibu Open title Saturday at Trophy Lakes in Charleston, S.C.
The only female competitor to run 39-1/2 off the entire weekend, she did it all four rounds. To earn the win she defeated Manon Costard in the super finals with a score of 2 at 41 to Manon’s 3.5 at 38.
Four of the top-8 finishers in Women’s slalom rode GOODE skis as Karen Truelove (5th), Kassidy Hawkins (6th) and Ali Garcia (7th) put in strong showings. Karen’s first-round score of a half buoy at 39 set a pending U.S. Nationals Women’s 4 slalom record.
On the Men’s side, Thomas Degasperi advanced to the finals but unfortunately missed his gates at 39-1/2 to end up with a 4th-place finish. He put up very solid scores of 3 buoys at 41 off in each of the first two rounds, and did so again on his “provisional” pass in the finals, until his 39 gates were pulled.
Dane Mechler and Adam Sedlmajer each just missed out on the finals, finishing 6th and 7th, respectively.
