Regina takes Malibu Open title, vaults to World No. 1 ranking

Regina Jaquess won the Women’s slalom title at the 2012 Malibu Open this weekend in Milwaukee, in the process reclaiming the top spot on the IWSF Elite world rankings list.

Regina topped April Coble-Eller in the head-to-head final round to earn the win, her first ever Malibu Open slalom title after finishing second three separate times.  Regina dominated the weekend on her soon-to-be released new GOODE ski and PowerShell5 boots, posting the highest Women’s score of the weekend of 5 buoys at 39-1/2 feet off in the semis, only four buoys off her world record.

Regina’s fellow GOODE teammate Karen Truelove took fifth, while rising young star Makayla Haw continues to impress at the professional level as she finished ninth.

In Men’s slalom, Nate Smith beat Chris Rossi in the final round to earn the title. Team GOODE’s Thomas Degasperi made it to the semis, finishing fourth and Terry Winter finished seventh.  Terry skied especially well, scoring 3 buoys at 41-feet off in the second round, which unfortunately still landed him in a run off that included T-Gas.  Team GOODE members Carlos Allais and Adam Sedlmajer finished 11th and 15th, respectively.

Italian Junior and Team GOODE skier Brando Caruso took the boys slalom title, running 1 buoy at 39-1/2-feet off to top Canadian Jonah Shaffer in the final round head-to-head match.
